Kids Story Books--That Talk!
Talking books are books which are provided in digital format and are in many cases read by the author.
Recently, talking books have grown in popularity as society continues to move at an ever increasing fast pace. However, did you know that there are talking books that you can listen to online for absolutely free?
Even as an adult, I love to read Talking Books! For me, talking books recapture the magic of storytelling at its best. However, I really enjoy watching my children enjoy talking books. My 3 year old is able to easily navigate the computer to advance pages when necessary, and he is absolutely captivated by both the art and story. In contrasting Talking Books with some of our favorite educational TV programs, I find that
Talking Books provide a more calming and relaxing experience. For this reason, we will usually listen to talking books together in the evening after dinner as they provide a great way to wind down and get ready for bath and / or bed time!
Two very popular online talking book sources are Story Place and Story Line. Story Place is a digital library which provides talking books in both English and Spanish. They also provide activiies and games which are a lot of fun. If you would like to hear one of your favorite actors reading, then Storyline on Line is for you! Brought to you by the Screen Actors Guild, it provides a variety of books being read by different actors.
In addition to Story Place, and Storyline, another great resource for online games, songs, and talking books is RIF.
